Title: Franklin Street Postcard
Medium: Acrylic on Wood
Dimensions: 18”x24”
Completed: 2020
Info: As Tampa faces a wave of renovations of historical buildings I wanted to offer glimpse into the past at Tampa’s Main Street in the late 40’s. Sadly this street corner stands idle and abandoned in the heart of our downtown business district. These buildings have been neglected for far to long. Hopefully they will soon face an interior renovation and be repurposed into offices or residential condominiums all while maintaining their original architectural charm.

Title: Finding Fairyland
Medium: Acrylic Paint
Dimensions: 24”x30”
Completed: 2018
Info: Located on the bend of the Hillsborough River was the Tampa Waterworks which sat atop a natural spring which once provided the growing city with a clean fresh water source. The structure sat vacant for years until Richard Gonzmart (Columbia Restaurant Group Owner) purchased the property and turned it into a restauran named U Le Le. (Named after a local Native American from which the story of Pocahontas was based off of). In the 1950's Lowry park was once a theme park named Fairyland which was populated with statues of whimsical fairytale characters and children's rides. After the parks closure the statues sat in a field exposed to the scorching sun for decades till Richard Gonzmart purchased them at auction and had them beautifully restored and proudly displayed outside his restaurant.

Inspired by my Cuban roots I decided to brew Cuban coffee with my grandmother’s old coffee pot and bring it to school and paint with it as an experimental medium. After much trial and error I found it is similar to watercolors adding more grounds to darken and more water to lighten colors.
